- Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang predicts artificial intelligence will be on par with human capabilities within five years.
- He anticipates the rise of customizable AI tools across various industries.
- Nvidia's revenue has seen a significant increase due to high demand for AI chips.
November 30, 2023: Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, made a bold statement at The New York Times DealBook summit, suggesting that artificial intelligence (AI) could match human intelligence within the next five years.
He referred to the concept of artificial general intelligence (AGI), where computers would be able to perform tasks at a level comparable to human intellect.
Nvidia’s business has skyrocketed, largely fueled by the growing need for powerful graphics processing units (GPUs) essential in AI development. This demand spans multiple sectors, from automotive to scientific research, and has been a key driver in the company’s financial success.
Huang reminisced about delivering the “world’s first AI supercomputer” to OpenAI, co-founded by Elon Musk, emphasizing Nvidia’s long-standing commitment to advancing AI technology.
Regarding recent controversies around OpenAI’s management, Huang expressed hope for stability and highlighted the importance of strong corporate governance.
Huang also mentioned the ongoing challenges in achieving AGI. While AI has excelled in areas like recognition and perception, it still struggles with complex multistep reasoning, an essential component for reaching AGI.
