December 13, 2023: Snapchat, the popular social media platform, has rolled out a new feature for its Plus subscribers, allowing them to create snaps using artificial intelligence.
This update, available to users who subscribe to the $3.99 plan, provides an innovative way to generate and share images.
Subscribers can access the feature by selecting the “AI” button in the camera interface. They can either type a text prompt or choose from preset options like “a futuristic disco” or “a rocket preparing for liftoff.”
Snapchat’s AI then creates an image based on the prompt, which users can edit and share with friends and family on the app.
Additionally, Snapchat has introduced a way to extend the background of photos. Users can make the subject of a photo seem farther away by using AI to fill in the background. This is done by taking a close-up, pressing the “crop” icon, and selecting “extend.”
Snapchat Plus members also have access to “Dreams,” an AI selfie feature that transforms photos based on themes. Subscribers get one free pack of eight Dreams each month.
These new AI features, along with others launched throughout the year, such as an AI chatbot and filters created with ChatGPT, demonstrate Snapchat’s commitment to integrating AI into its platform.
